Professional Overview
Ted is a regulatory and transactional attorney, focused on the legal cannabis business. He currently serves as a Contract Partner/ Of-Counsel at Ion Law. His cannabis practice spans a multitude of legal concentrations but is primarily focused on transactional and regulatory matters. Ted has created a proprietary state-by-state legal survey, outlining each state’s licensing procedures and how one should approach winning a license in each state.
Throughout his career, Ted has facilitated and advised companies, both large and small, in the cannabis industry through mergers and acquisitions. Ted previously worked directly with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to create a summary of the Multijurisdictional Disclosure System (MJDS), as a means of guiding Canadian clients desiring access to the US public equities markets, in the simplest manner possible. He has also crafted countless non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) on behalf of his clients.
Ted leverages this regulatory background to advise individuals and Multi-State Operators (MSOs) on how to create license applications for a wide range of cannabis businesses. He has also worked with federal agencies like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to create compliant solutions for his clients in the CBD market.
Before joining Ion Law, Ted and the co-founder of Terra Tech Corp. created LIV Solutions as a cannabis license acquisition vehicle and consulting business. During his time at LIV Solutions, Ted served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer and focused his work on applications for dispensary and cultivation licenses, and providing legal, regulatory, and strategic business advice to a variety of cannabis operators. Ted helped clients develop every aspect of their business, from marketing and branding to writing compliant standard operating procedures for potential dispensaries.
Ted also previously worked for a renowned law firm in Chicago where he focused his practice on complex real estate transactions. He became the firm’s leading zoning advisor. His work in complex real estate transactions has made Ted highly skilled in navigating the complex web of state, local, and federal legal schemes. Ted utilizes these skills to achieve the best and most cost-efficient result possible for each client.
Experience
REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS
Examples of Ted’s significant experience include:
- Representation of a multi-state operator (MSO) in the license application process for the state of New Jersey saving clients upwards of one million dollars by advising against entering the market at that time in the face of a hostile regulatory landscape.
- Representation of a California dispensary operator in creating a new dispensary concept to serve as an application template for current and future dispensary licenses.
- Representation of a cannabis financial services company seeking to implement blockchain payments across many western states.
- Representation of a client seeking Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and state approval for establishing CBD as a food and beverage additive.
- Representation of multiple cannabis industry clients facing complex zoning issues.
